Who We Are

Mzuzu University Alumni Association is a network for all former students who went through Mzuzu University since its inception in 1997. By the Congregation of 2024, Mzuzu University had produced over 15,000 graduates, who are contributing significantly in various spheres of the social and economic development in Malawi and the world.

The idea to form the Association came about in early 2000s but the Association formally came into being around 2010.

The Association is guided by the Mzuzu University Alumni Constitution and the Mzuzu University Alumni Relations which was officially launched by Professor Wales Singini, Vice Chancellor of Mzuzu University, on 30 November, 2024 at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Sunbird Nkopola Resort in Mangochi. 

Our Vision

The vision of Mzuzu University Alumni Association is to inspire a community of Mzuzu University alumni towards active interaction and the possession of an active mind to engage in activities supportive of the life and development of Mzuzu University by upholding its values and promoting and complementing its efforts in providing quality education, training and research and complementary services to meet the technological, social and economic needs of individuals and communities in Malawi and beyond.   

Objectives

Promote fellowship
  • Annual General Meetings (AGM) – Events where alumni reconnect and discuss the Association’s progress.
  • Regional Chapters (Northern, Central, Eastern, Southern) – Ensuring alumni engagement across Malawi.
  • Social & Professional Networking Events – Encouraging mentorship, career connections, and business partnerships.
  • Online Community & Social Media Presence – Keeping alumni engaged through newsletters, WhatsApp groups, and social platforms.
  • Collaborative Projects & Volunteering – Strengthening bonds through shared initiatives such as donations and community service.
Educational Opportunities
  • Providing Scholarships & Bursaries – Supporting needy students through initiatives like the “Adopt a Needy Student Initiative.”
  • Book & Resource Donations – Contributing books to Mzuzu University Library and secondary schools like Musiki CDSS in Mzimba.
  • Public Engagement & Policy Advocacy – Alumni working in education, government, and research advocate for improvements in higher education policy.

Support Mzuzu Unuversity
  • Mobilizing Financial & Material Support – Fundraising for the university through alumni contributions and partnerships.
  • Providing Social Welfare Support – Assisting struggling students with accommodation, food, and study materials.
  • Infrastructure & Facility Support – Encouraging alumni to contribute to improving MZUNI’s facilities, such as libraries and research centers.
  • Public Engagement & Policy Advocacy – Alumni working in education, government, and research advocate for improvements in higher education policy.
  • Promoting University Reputation & Branding – Marketing MZUNI through alumni success stories and strengthening its national & global visibility.
  • Participation in MZUNI Initiatives – Engaging in university-led activities such as annual tree planting and community outreach programs.
